: Let's get planning
|
|

The experts all agree on one thing – it is not a case of if, but when, a flu pandemic will arrive. So, what are you waiting for: get planning!
It is almost impossible to predict how long a pandemic may last. There could be up to three waves, each lasting up to about eight weeks, building to a peak in week four before abating again. To ensure business continuity in a pandemic, short-term planning with a health focus, is essential. Succession planning and back up planning is also important.
The Ministry of Health has advised that businesses should plan for up to 50% staff absences for periods of about two weeks at the height of the pandemic wave and lower levels of staff absences for a few weeks either side of the peak.
The Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce has been actively working with the business community on pandemic preparedness. It is our view that preparation is key to business continuity and ultimately the recovery of the entire community.
